Nigerian Senator Supports Students to Combat Poverty

Senator Austin Akobundu of Abia Central Senatorial District in Nigeria distributed ₦200,000 to over 200 students and provided full three-year scholarships to 113 students at the National Teachers’ Institute. Godswill Ezennwa, a medicine student at Abia State University, initially believed the grant was a scam until receiving the funds. Akobundu stated his commitment to ensuring no student in his district drops out of school due to financial difficulties, viewing education as the most sustainable form of empowerment.

The senator detailed a broader range of initiatives including vocational training and digital skills programs for hundreds of constituents. He also explained his recent political move from the Peoples Democratic Party to the African Democratic Congress, citing internal party issues. Stakeholders praised the program’s transparency and long-term impact, emphasizing the value of investing in education over short-term relief.
