NSITF Enrolls 7.6 Million Workers in Insurance Scheme

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) reports enrolling over 7.6 million employees in its Employees Compensation Scheme (ECS) across Nigeria. NSITF recently achieved a first by including the Nigeria Police Force in the scheme, following discussions with the Inspector-General of Police. Fund Managing Director Oluwaseun Falaye announced this at the 2026 International Civil Service Conference in Abuja on May 20.

The NSITF is also working to improve internal operations. They partnered with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to strengthen anti-corruption efforts within the fund. They are transitioning from paper-based systems to digital platforms to improve transparency and claim processing.

In 2024, the fund processed 22,350 claims and paid out roughly N90 million to a Seplat worker, among other compensation payments. Despite these gains, uneven compliance and low public awareness remain challenges for full implementation of the scheme. The NSITF continues to seek partnerships with state governments and integrate ECS compliance into public procurement.
