Kebbi State Expands Health Insurance to 50,000 Residents

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, Nigeria, approved the enrollment of 50,000 vulnerable residents into the state’s Social Health Insurance Scheme. The initiative builds on last year’s enrollment of another 50,000 people under an Equity Fund, demonstrating a sustained commitment to social protection and healthcare access.

Dr. Murtala Muhammad Dandare, Executive Secretary of the Kebbi State Contributory Health Care Management Agency, stated the program aims to improve health indicators and accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage within the state.

Enrollment will begin in the coming weeks across all 21 local government areas, targeting approximately 200 beneficiaries per electoral ward. KECHEMA is currently addressing delays in funding from the National Health Insurance Agency that affect implementation of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, but assures stakeholders that resolutions are underway.
