EU Launches €4.5 Million Project in Sokoto State

The European Union unveiled a €4.5 million conflict prevention project in Sokoto State, Nigeria on Wednesday. The 18-month RECAP project aims to address insecurity, climate change, and economic hardship affecting local communities. Action Against Hunger Nigeria will implement the project alongside International Alert and Save The Child Initiative.

RECAP will operate across ten local government areas and intends to reach over 537,000 people. Xenia Stoll of the EU stated the project reinforces their dedication to peace and security in Northwest Nigeria. Sokoto State officials welcomed the intervention, citing rising challenges from insecurity and resource conflicts.

The project will focus on dialogue, livelihoods, water management, and mental health support. Government officials pledged institutional support for the initiative’s success and community involvement. While the project addresses multiple vulnerabilities, long-term success depends on sustained funding and ongoing collaboration between stakeholders.
