144 Ghanaians Return From Libya with IOM Assistance

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Government of Ghana facilitated the return of 144 Ghanaian migrants from Libya on July 14, 2026, through the Voluntary Humanitarian Return program. The returnees arrived in two groups at Accra International Airport and received immediate support from multiple Ghanaian state institutions including health screenings, food, and psychosocial assistance.

This evacuation continues a long-term partnership aimed at supporting Ghanaian nationals stranded in high-risk countries like Libya. Following initial support, the migrants will enroll in reintegration programs offering livelihood support, vocational training, and socio-economic empowerment.

Ghanaian authorities reiterated their commitment to protecting citizens abroad and urged prospective migrants to pursue safe, regular migration pathways. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue collaborating with the IOM and diplomatic missions to support Ghanaians in distress and promote orderly migration.
