Ghana Funds Fees for Over 101,000 Students

The Students' Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) in Ghana reports over 101,000 first-year students are receiving academic fee support for the 2025/2026 academic year. The latest disbursement included 29,687 students, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 101,905 across the country.

The funding stems from President Mahama’s “No Fees Stress” initiative, designed to lessen financial burdens on new tertiary students. The SLTF validated data from 170,425 applicants, drawn from records received from 163 public tertiary institutions.

The Fund modified its application portal to allow previously ineligible students to apply, provided they hadn’t already received support. Currently, the SLTF is extending the validation deadline to May 31, 2026, to maximize access. The Fund aims to complete all disbursements by the end of June 2026, though it acknowledges ongoing work to ensure all eligible students are included.
