Mahama Pledges Nurse Recruitment During Hospital Centennial

President John Dramani Mahama, while in the Volta Region of Ghana, announced plans to recruit 16,000 nurses over two phases to improve healthcare access across the country. He made the announcement while celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Ho Municipal Hospital and speaking at a durbar for the Free Primary Healthcare Programme. Mahama stated the initiative aims to achieve Universal Health Coverage by removing financial barriers to essential services at local health facilities.

The President also praised healthcare workers for their dedication and highlighted ongoing investments in the sector, including cardiac centres, upgrades to the Ho Teaching Hospital, and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. He encouraged citizens to prioritize preventative health measures like regular screenings and healthy lifestyles.

The recruitment of nurses builds on existing government efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery, particularly in underserved communities. The success of these programs will be crucial for improving health outcomes and achieving broader healthcare goals in Ghana.
