Why this is here: The initiative plans to establish Village Tree Enterprises, with 70% of these businesses led by women, fostering local economic empowerment.

On Monday, May 11, 2026, the 100,000 Trees for Ghana Initiative formally launched in the Dagbon Traditional Area of Ghana’s Northern Region. Tree Aid and Nviron Hive organized the event, bringing together farmers, leaders, and government officials to address the country’s ongoing forest crisis. Ghana currently loses about 315,000 hectares of forest annually.

The initiative will plant 100,000 trees and regenerate another 100,000 across 1,300 hectares within ten communities in the Yendi Municipality. Nviron Hive established a tiered giving framework for businesses, ensuring transparency and alignment with Ghana’s climate commitments.

Founding members of the program include The Accra Collective—African Futures Institute, Volta Presentation Farms, Printex, Atlantic International, and Dr. Patrick Ata.

Beyond planting, the program aims to create over 250 seasonal jobs, train 1,250 farmers in climate-smart agriculture, and increase farming household incomes by 20 to 25 percent. Tree Aid brings four decades of experience, having already planted over 11 million trees in northern Ghana. The coalition remains open to new members, seeking continued support for long-term forest recovery.
