Hanoi Accelerates Flood Control Projects

Multiple key infrastructure projects aimed at improving drainage and reducing flooding in Hanoi, Vietnam are nearing completion. Several retention lakes, including Me Tri Lake (Dong Bong 2) and Yen Nghia Lakes 1 & 2, have finished primary construction and are ready for operation. These projects, with combined investments reaching hundreds of billions of đồng, feature canals, regulating gates, and connections to existing drainage systems.

Work also progresses on the Kim Nguu River downstream improvement project, aiming to enhance water storage and drainage capacity in southern Hanoi through canal dredging and reinforced banks. The Thuy Phuong 2 reservoir and the Phu Do reservoir, covering 36 hectares, are also in their final stages.

These efforts aim to improve Hanoi’s overall flood resilience and water management capabilities. Authorities are now focused on final touches and system testing before fully operationalizing the new infrastructure.
