China’s Self-Propelled Barges Rescue 6,000 From Floods

Chinese authorities in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region deployed self-propelled barges to rescue over 6,000 people stranded by flooding caused by Typhoon Maysak. Heavy rainfall inundated the campus of a logistics college in Quanzhou city, isolating thousands of students and staff. Traditional rescue methods proved slow due to limited capacity.

The Anneng Construction Group deployed three heavy-duty, modular barges on the evening of July 8th, accelerating the evacuation process. These barges can transport hundreds of people per trip, significantly increasing rescue speed.

The barges, produced by Harzone Industry under the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), measure approximately 60 meters long by 8 meters wide and can carry over 500 people with a 60-ton capacity. CSSC believes successful deployment during the Guangxi floods demonstrates the growing importance of rapidly deployable modular systems for large-scale disaster response.
