Huế Will Provide Free Textbooks to Students Years Ahead of National Plan

Huế City, Vietnam will provide free textbooks to students in grades 1 to 12 starting in the 2026-2027 school year , three years before the nationwide rollout. The Huế People’s Committee announced it will allocate approximately 52.8 billion Vietnamese đồng to purchase the books.

Students will borrow textbooks annually through school libraries, a system designed to both efficiently use the city’s budget and encourage responsible handling of educational materials. The Huế Department of Education and Training will oversee improvements to storage and distribution infrastructure.

This policy aligns with Nghị quyết 71 from the Politburo and Nghị định 271 from the government, which mandate free textbooks nationally starting in the 2029-2030 school year. Huế joins Hồ Chí Minh City, Quảng Ninh province, and several localities in Đà Nẵng and Đồng Nai in implementing the program early.
