Why this is here: The recall follows increased regulatory action, resulting in less than 1.5% of over 3,000 tested cosmetic samples being withdrawn from the market due to quality issues.

Vietnamese authorities ordered a recall of Nivea skin cream after discovering undeclared propylparaben. Beiersdorf Vietnam is responsible for the product’s distribution. The recall began March 24 after officials found the preservative wasn't listed on the product’s declared formula.

Propylparaben is a common preservative used in cosmetics and food to prevent mold and bacterial growth. Experts warn that unclear dosages or exceeding permitted levels can harm health. The undeclared ingredient may pose risks to people with sensitive skin or allergies, according to regulators.

The Drug Administration Department directed provincial health departments to halt distribution and usage. They also requested the company recall the product and destroy the non-compliant batch.

Beiersdorf Vietnam must report the recall results by April 20. The company’s product registration will be revoked for six months.
