Vietnam’s Hòa Phát Container Increases Exports

Hòa Phát Container Company shipped over 4,000 containers from its facility in Cái Mép - Thị Vải, Vietnam during the second quarter of 2024 to international shipping lines, equipment leasing companies, and port operators. Hapag-Lloyd of Germany and CMA CGM continue to purchase containers manufactured in Vietnam, with Hapag-Lloyd ordering 2,000 20-foot containers.

Domestic clients including Hải An, VIMC Lines, and Tân Cảng Sài Gòn also received deliveries. The company produces standard and specialized containers, as well as casings for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) used in countries like the US, Australia, and Vietnam.

Hòa Phát reports that 90% of container input materials are sourced domestically, giving them control over quality and costs, a benefit previous Vietnamese container manufacturers lacked, contributing to the failure of a similar plant in Hải Dương in 2007. The success hinges on access to specialized steel, with SPA-H steel accounting for approximately 55% of container cost.
