Kyiv Missile Strike Kills 24

Why this is here: Fifteen-year-old Mariia, a ninth-grade student, was among the twenty-four people killed in the Kyiv missile strike, along with her father and grandmother.

On the night of May 13-14, a Russian missile struck a residential building in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, killing twenty-four people in Ukraine. Among those killed was Yurii Orlov, captain of the Kyiv Floorball Club, and his girlfriend, Maryna Homeniuk, an English teacher. Svitlana Moskalishyna, a kindergarten teacher, died alongside her granddaughter in the attack.

The strike also took the lives of Mariia, a 15-year-old student, and her father and grandmother. Nova Poshta, a delivery company, reported the deaths of two employees, Dmytro Lepskyi and his wife Svitlana, who also worked as a school events coordinator. Dmytro Pavelko, a 23-year-old drag artist, was remembered for his creativity and dedication to performance.

The identities of all victims have not been released, and the full scope of the loss is still unfolding. The attack prompted a day of mourning in Kyiv, but rebuilding and remembering those lost will take much longer.
