Swedish Fisherman Dies From Fall

Sven-Arne Ängvald, 63, of Söderhamn, Sweden, died from head injuries after falling into a dock frame on March 16th. He worked for the Söderhamn archipelago unit, repairing docks during the winter months. Ängvald was working alone when he fell, managing to climb out and alert a passerby who called emergency services.

He initially seemed stable, but doctors discovered severe brain hemorrhaging at Hudiksvall Hospital and could not operate. Ängvald’s son, Per-Erik Persson, shared that his father was an organ donor.

Investigations by both the Swedish Work Environment Authority and the police found no workplace deficiencies contributed to the accident. Persson suspects a sudden drop in blood sugar may have caused the fall, and does not blame the municipality. The case is closed, but the cause of the initial fall remains unclear.
