World Central Kitchen Aids Firefighters and Victims in Spain

World Central Kitchen (WCK), the non-governmental organization founded by chef José Andrés, deployed a team to the province of Almería in Spain to support those affected by the recent wildfires and the firefighters battling the blaze. The organization established five support points in coordination with Civil Protection, providing food and water to both emergency personnel and local residents.

WCK began operations after the fire broke out last Thursday, claiming 12 lives. The team is working with local restaurants to stimulate the local economy while providing aid. On Saturday alone, WCK distributed approximately 500 meals.

Sergio Alonso, a WCK worker, explained the organization assesses factors like fire status, population needs, and restaurant capacity before deploying. WCK plans to remain in Almería until the emergency command post is dismantled, anticipated within a few days.
