Spain to Add 115,000 Dependency Care Jobs By 2027

Spain’s Ministry of Social Rights projects the creation of 115,000 jobs by 2027 to support a projected 417,000 new people requiring dependency care. The Spanish Congress recently approved a decree providing an additional 6.2 billion euros in funding to the dependency care system managed by autonomous communities.

This increased funding aims to reduce the waiting list for care by 71,000 people and expand services, including assistance with daily tasks like shopping and medical appointments. Andalucía and Madrid are expected to see the largest job growth with approximately 23,500 and 22,300 new positions respectively.

Alongside expanding access, the Ministry is also focused on improving working conditions for care workers, many of whom are women earning around 16,500 euros annually on temporary contracts. The Ministry has initiated dialogue with unions and employers to address issues of low pay, training, and job security, acknowledging the sector's high turnover and impact on worker health.
