Barcelona Scholarships Support Young Migrants’ Futures

Seven young migrants in the Barcelona neighborhoods of Torre Baró and Ciutat Meridiana received Óscar Muñoz scholarships to further their professional training. The scholarships, awarded by the 50x20 association and colleagues of the late journalist Óscar Muñoz, aim to support youth from low-income, diverse communities. The recipients, aged 15 to 24, are primarily from Morocco and recently obtained legal residency in Spain through a regularization process.

The initiative builds on the work of 50x20, founded in 2008 to provide aid during the economic crisis, and seeks to fill gaps where public administration falls short. The young recipients are pursuing various career paths, including dentistry and skilled trades.

The scholarships not only provide financial assistance but also represent a pathway to full citizenship and integration for these young people and their families. Organizers hope to expand the program in future rounds.
