Samsung Uses Aerospace Titanium to Reinforce Foldable Phones

Samsung announced its Flex Titanium technology, a structural redesign for its foldable phone displays, aiming to eliminate the visible crease and increase durability. The South Korean company will integrate a titanium alloy film and a titanium support plate beneath the OLED panel.

These components, thinner than a human hair, offer significantly increased rigidity compared to conventional polymer films. This innovation addresses a key concern for consumers hesitant about foldable devices, the longevity of the hinge and the screen crease.

Samsung, a leading provider of foldable phone displays and a supplier for companies like Apple, plans to implement this technology in its 2026 lineup including the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Alongside the display advancement, Samsung also unveiled the 990 SSD, a solid state drive offering up to 38% greater energy efficiency than its predecessor, the 990 Pro, while reaching read speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s.
