Spain’s Imserso Program Shifts Booking to National Agencies

The Spanish Institute of Elderly and Social Services (Imserso) will now manage bookings for its 2026-2027 travel program directly through authorized travel agencies, its electronic headquarters, and a telephone service. For decades, 142 municipalities across Spain processed around 13,000 annual applications for the Imserso program, which offers subsidized travel to seniors. This change ends a collaboration agreement with local councils, stemming from a 2015 law regulating public administration agreements.

The move aims to standardize access to the program’s 879,213 available places by removing municipal quotas. While the change may present challenges for seniors less familiar with digital tools, Imserso will automatically enroll previous municipal applicants into its database and send them reservation credentials. Prices for trips range from 224€ to 565€ depending on the destination and duration, with 7,447 spaces reserved for low-income pensioners at a flat rate of 50€.
