The Ascó and Vandellós II nuclear power plants in Tarragona, Spain generated 50% of the electricity consumed in Catalonia in 2025 , according to the annual report from the Asociación Nuclear Ascó-Vandellós II (Anav). The plants produced 22.812 billion kilowatt-hours of net electricity, representing 58.8% of all energy produced within Catalonia and 8.9% of the entire Iberian Peninsula’s net production.

Anav reports the nuclear facilities avoided the emission of 8.4 million tons of equivalent CO2 during the year. The organization is working to extend the long-term operation of the plants by expanding on-site storage capacity for spent fuel.

The plants employ 865 professionals directly, with an additional 1,000 service workers and up to 1,100 temporary workers during refueling periods. Anav also focuses on public outreach, with the Ascó Information Center receiving over 3,500 visitors in 2025.
