Spanish Insurer Funds Care for People with Intellectual Disabilities

IATI, a leading travel insurance company in Spain, provides significant financial support to Nen Déu, a Barcelona-based organization serving 250 people with intellectual disabilities. Nen Déu originated over 130 years ago as a healthcare provider for children of migrants and has evolved to offer special education, occupational training, day care, and soon, residential centers. IATI’s CEO, Alfonso Calzado, continues a family tradition of supporting the organization, allocating a portion of each insurance policy sale to Nen Déu.

Calzado emphasizes the responsibility of successful companies to contribute to society, particularly to organizations like Nen Déu which address needs that public funding doesn’t fully cover. The foundation uses these private donations to enhance staffing and provide specialized care, like behavioral support and mealtime assistance.

IATI also promotes awareness of Nen Déu among its employees, fostering a sense of pride and loyalty. Nen Déu is currently planning to build two residential centers to address a waiting list of 3,000 people in Catalonia needing similar resources.
