Spain Expands Young Cultural Grant Spending

The Spanish government announced updates to its Young Cultural Grant program this Tuesday. The changes aim to broaden access and expand eligible spending categories. Young people can now use the grant to purchase musical instruments, art supplies, and fund cultural education.

Minister of Culture Ernest Urtasun detailed collaborations with nonprofit organizations. These groups will help promote the program and assist vulnerable young people with applications. This year, asylum seekers, those with temporary protection, and young foreign nationals completing residency paperwork are also eligible.

The grant, initially created to support the cultural sector after the pandemic, remains capped at 400 euros per person. In 2023, roughly 366,000 young people used the grant, an 8% increase from the prior year.

Ministry data indicates only 0.3% of grant uses were fraudulent, despite claims circulating online. The government continues to monitor usage and address potential issues.
