Spain: Disability Groups Partner to Improve Housing Access

The Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (Cermi) and Provivienda will collaborate to secure accessible, affordable, and inclusive housing for people with disabilities and their families. The organizations signed a framework agreement on Wednesday establishing a stable cooperation to integrate disability perspectives into public housing policies.

Both groups believe adequate housing is essential for exercising fundamental rights, referencing the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Spanish Constitution. Their joint work will include political advocacy for universal accessibility, studies on the impact of residential exclusion, and promotion of best practices.

The agreement will last for four years, with potential for renewal. A joint commission will monitor progress and identify new opportunities. The partnership will also focus on addressing multiple and intersectional discrimination, specifically for women and girls with disabilities, those in rural areas, and people experiencing poverty.
