Valencia Relocates Historic Lighthouse to Waterfront

Valencia City Council and the Port Authority of Valencia agreed to move the old lighthouse to the Marina, positioning it opposite the Veles e Vents building to provide public access. The lighthouse currently sits on a closed dock, inaccessible to the public. The move will involve dismantling, restoring, and reinstalling the historic structure.

The lighthouse became obsolete after the completion of the northern expansion of the Port of Valencia in 2012 and ceased operation in June 2015 when a new lighthouse took over its maritime signaling function.

Port officials view the relocation as a way to both preserve a valuable historical landmark and strengthen ties between the port and Valencia’s citizens. The agreement also addressed the future public use of the Veles e Vents building.
