Japan Assists Thailand with River Contamination

Japan is collaborating with Thailand to combat heavy metal contamination in the Kok River basin and other waterways in northern Thailand and the Mekong basin. The partnership involves the Japanese government, the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Thailand’s Pollution Control Department (PCD).

The project aims to strengthen monitoring and water quality management. It addresses a long-standing environmental issue impacting communities that rely on these rivers for livelihoods and drinking water.
