Why this is here: The Agusan Golden Tara statue, discovered in 1917, weighs 1.8 kilograms and is made of at least 18-karat gold.

Agusan del Sur, Philippines, designed its 2026 Palarong Pambansa logo to reflect its cultural identity and history. The province incorporates the Manobo term “tu” into its branding, meaning “in” or “to,” as a tribute to the indigenous group. The logo features three key elements: the Agusan River, traditional suyam embroidery, and the Golden Tara.

The Agusan River, roughly 350 kilometers long, appears on the left side of the “A” in “AgSur.” The right side showcases suyam patterns representing Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. A silhouette of the Golden Tara, an 18-karat gold statue found in 1917, occupies the center. Currently, the Golden Tara resides at the Field Museum in Chicago, United States.

Organizers hope hosting the Palarong Pambansa will create opportunities for young athletes. The province acknowledges the artifact remains outside of the Philippines, and further work is needed to fully celebrate and share its heritage.
