Teacher’s Raya Card Collection Began With Student’s Gift

Why this is here: The teacher’s son is now helping open the Raya card envelopes, suggesting a multi-generational appreciation for handwritten greetings.
A teacher’s collection of around 400 Raya cards started with a handmade card from a student with disabilities in 2020. Hafizul, a visual arts and Malay teacher, values the effort and sincerity behind each card he receives. His collection now includes greetings from Malaysian and Bruneian royalty, Indonesian politicians, and other individuals and organizations.
Hafizul preserves the cards to share their meaning with his students. He believes the cards teach children to express themselves respectfully.
The teacher also finds collecting cards therapeutic and hopes to continue the tradition. His eight-year-old son now helps open the envelopes, showing an interest in carrying on the practice.
