Kashmir’s Manasbal Lake Welcomes Migratory Birds

The Wullar-Manasbal Development Authority (WMDA) reports Manasbal Lake in Jammu and Kashmir, India is experiencing an ecological recovery as migratory birds return. The lake, which reaches depths of 43 feet, had seen a decline in bird populations five years ago due to falling water levels. Recent WMDA efforts including the removal of over 7202.50 cubic meters of weeds and dredging across 70,000 square feet have improved water quality and attracted more than 46 bird species from 23 families.

The WMDA is now focusing on water budgeting, installing gauges to monitor levels, and constructing waste treatment facilities to preserve the lake's ecosystem. They are also collaborating with local communities through events and sustainable tourism initiatives.

Officials hope these combined efforts will ensure the long-term health of Manasbal Lake and maintain its role as a vital habitat for migratory birds.
