Kadirur Panchayat Wins National Award

Kadirur grama panchayat in Kannur, India, received third place nationally in the ‘Atma Nirbhar Panchayat Special Award’ category. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj announced the award, recognizing the panchayat’s work from the 2024-25 appraisal year. Kadirur stood out among roughly 268,000 panchayats nationwide for its efforts in areas like poverty reduction and waste management.

The panchayat decreased the number of families living below the poverty line from 1,917 in 2009 to 1,440 in 2021-22. They supported this progress with agriculture schemes, the Kudumbashree program, and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Kadirur currently reports only 38 families live in extreme poverty.

Kadirur also maintains a strong healthcare network with family health centers and specialized care. They ranked first in Kerala’s Clean and Green Panchayat rankings in both 2022 and 2025. The panchayat continues to address challenges in sustaining these initiatives and improving services for all residents.
