Amit Shah Inspects West Bengal Border Security, Launches Tech Projects

Union home minister Amit Shah inspected border security along the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal and unveiled three Border Security Force (BSF) projects worth ₹47 crore. Shah reviewed a radio-based fence breach detection system that alerts personnel to tampering, as well as infrared alarms for difficult terrain like riverine areas, where approximately 180 km of the 2,216.7-km border lacks physical fencing.

The visit is part of a three-day tour focused on security arrangements and infrastructure improvements. Shah stated the government prioritizes completing long-pending national security projects and establishing a “quadrilateral security grid” to prevent smuggling, crime, and infiltration.

The government also plans to involve local residents, police, and administration in a new border security system. This initiative aligns with broader goals to make India drug-free by 2047 and secure its borders against infiltration and demographic changes.
