Canadian Tech Founder Builds 99 Tiny Homes for the Homeless

Marcel LeBrun, a Canadian entrepreneur from New Brunswick, is building 99 tiny homes in Fredericton to address homelessness and housing insecurity. After selling his cybersecurity company, Radian6, for an eight-figure sum, LeBrun invested $1.5 million into the “12 Neighbours” community.

The project goes beyond simply providing shelter. Each 240 square foot home includes a bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, and living area, and residents also have access to employment opportunities through social enterprises like a coffee roastery and woodworking facilities.

LeBrun emphasizes that stable housing, employment, and community support are all essential for regaining independence. Resident Amelia Joy credits the program with giving her a fresh start after experiencing homelessness and addiction, providing acceptance, stability, and purpose. The indoor, assembly-line construction of the homes allows for year-round building and reduced costs.
