Punjab Pavilion Opens at Baku Forum

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the Punjab Pavilion at the World Urban Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan. She then visited stalls at the Urban Expo and received a briefing from Zeeshan Sikandar, Director General of Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency, on the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar program.

Nawaz stated the housing initiative received international recognition as one of the world’s top innovative projects. She virtually toured the housing scheme and watched a documentary about its construction and impact on recipients.

Delegates and media representatives praised the program, and the pavilion became a central attraction at the forum. The province currently constructs between 600 to 700 homes daily, completing over 100,000 homes in one year, though the long-term durability of these structures and continued loan distribution remain ongoing concerns. The Punjab government hopes to present its approach as a model for affordable housing in other developing nations.
