Argentina Approves $709M Lithium Project to Boost Output

Zijin Mining received approval from Argentina’s investment incentive program, RIGI, to move forward with its $709 million Tres Quebradas lithium project in Fiambalá, Catamarca province. The project will add 40,000 annual tons of lithium carbonate production capacity to the country’s growing lithium mining sector.

This approval brings the total value of projects accepted into the RIGI program to $46.7 billion across various economic sectors. The Tres Quebradas project anticipates over 19 years of operation, supported by available resources at the site and is expected to generate approximately $400 million in annual exports.

Construction and operation of the mine will require 4,406 direct and indirect jobs, further stimulating the regional economy and local suppliers. Catamarca province is becoming a key hub for lithium production alongside Salta and Jujuy, as global demand for lithium increases for electric vehicle batteries and energy storage.
