Colombia to Invest $540M in Regional Environmental Projects

Colombia’s Ministry of Environment approved 27 environmental projects funded by royalties from extractive industries. The total investment exceeds 540 billion pesos, aiming to support the conservation and restoration of 32,000 hectares. Projects will focus on indigenous territories, Black communities, and municipalities with limited forest cover.
Six projects will address conservation and deforestation within indigenous communities, receiving 55 billion pesos for 4,500 hectares. An additional ten projects will focus on conservation in municipalities with limited forests, receiving 300 billion pesos to cover 18,600 hectares. Four projects will target deforestation with an investment of 93 billion pesos and cover nearly 3,000 hectares.
Royalties, generated from mining and petroleum industries, fund these initiatives. The National Royalty Fund allocates at least 15% to sanitation in the Amazon and Chocó regions. Citizens can monitor project progress via email or report irregularities through dedicated channels.
