New York Tiny Homes Aid Homeless in Rebuilding Lives

A Tiny Home for Good, a nonprofit in Syracuse, New York, is providing permanent housing and support services to people experiencing homelessness. Founded in 2014, the organization identified a need for stable housing beyond temporary shelters, as many individuals would return to the shelter system after brief periods in unsuitable living arrangements.

The program constructs and renovates small homes, equipped with kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry facilities, and also manages roughly 20 recovered single-family homes. Rent is set based on income, typically capped at 30% of a resident’s earnings, and there are no time limits or sobriety requirements for tenancy.

Currently housing 47 people, A Tiny Home for Good offers personalized support to residents, helping them access healthcare, recover documents, and address addiction or other challenges. Residents like Rhea Holmes and Antonio have found stability and renewed purpose through the program, regaining a sense of peace and pursuing personal interests.
