Global Voices in April 2026 began a series called Spotlight, focusing on artificial intelligence in developing countries. The project started as a question—how can media slow down to allow for depth? It aims to offer nuanced coverage of global issues, connecting local realities with wider conversations.

The series addresses a gap in reporting where stories from developing countries are often fragmented or viewed through external lenses. Each edition centers on a single topic, explored from multiple angles by collaborators from diverse backgrounds. Global Voices intentionally invites contributors to participate in a shared editorial process, valuing lived experience alongside traditional reporting.

Coordinating contributors across time zones and languages presents ongoing challenges. Funding also remains a concern for this independent journalism. However, the team continues to refine the process, experimenting with formats like podcasts and webinars to better serve audiences and sustain the project.
