Andahuasi Sugar Workers End 32-Day Strike

Workers at the Andahuasi Sugar Company in Peru ended a 32-day strike after reaching a collective bargaining agreement. The Peruvian Ministry of Labor and Promotion of Employment provided technical assistance to regional labor officials during the negotiations. Specialists from the ministry offered 23 technical supports during meetings between the company and the workers’ union.

The new collective agreement is valid from April 1, 2026, to October 31, 2030. It resolves all items in a petition presented on September 16, 2025. Agreements include a unified bonus covering previous benefits, an extraordinary closure bonus, and provisions for Christmas baskets and educational stipends.

The agreement also guarantees benefits like work uniforms and personal protective equipment. Both the company and the union pledged to resolve future disagreements through direct negotiation. The complete impact of these changes on sugar production remains to be seen.
