UK Recognizes Venezuelan Translator Aiding Earthquake Relief

The United Kingdom government recognized Israel Rivas, a young man from San Félix, Venezuela, for his work as an English translator assisting international rescue teams in La Guaira following the June 24 earthquakes. Rivas supported the British UK-ISAR search and rescue team, and later joined the Ukaid Emergency Medical Team, facilitating communication between rescuers and affected families.

Rivas described the psychological impact of working in the devastated areas and emphasized that his role extended beyond simple translation. He provided emotional support to vulnerable families during a critical time.

He noted the experience taught him resilience. The recognition came in the form of an official letter from the British government acknowledging his commitment. Rivas hopes to inspire others to remain hopeful, pointing to the strength of children finding joy amidst the tragedy.
