Venezuela McDonald’s Transformed Into Emergency Hospital

A group of 80 health volunteers from Barquisimeto and other Venezuelan states converted a looted McDonald’s restaurant in Caraballeda, La Guaira, into an active field hospital following the double earthquake on June 24. The volunteers, led by plastic surgeon Fernando Jaimes, established triage, a pharmacy, a procedure room, a psychology area, and collective dormitories within the fast-food location.

The makeshift hospital also includes a veterinary center where specialist Sebastián Ures and his team of 18 professionals have treated over 400 animals.

The transformation occurred after the restaurant was looted in the immediate aftermath of the earthquakes. Volunteers are continuing to provide medical care to both people and animals affected by the disaster, addressing immediate needs in a region severely impacted by the natural disaster.
