Petare Musical Theater School Resumes Arts Education

Why this is here: The school’s leadership team is comprised entirely of Venezuelan women, some working within the country and others abroad, demonstrating a commitment to rebuilding local social networks.
The Musical Theater School of Petare formally began academic and artistic activities this month. The school aims to use theater as a tool for social transformation and human growth within the Petare community.
The school’s reactivation received support from the Moleskine Foundation, which supports art and social transformation organizations. Foundation leaders recognized talent within Petare as an opportunity to create possibilities through performing arts.
The school currently offers a program for two age groups. The first group serves children ages 7 to 10, and the second group serves juveniles ages 14 to 17. Five Venezuelan women lead the school, collaborating both within Venezuela and abroad.
Former students now hold key positions within the school. This structure aims to build a new generation to sustain theater within the community.
