Peruvian student creates free platform to match students with scholarships

Raúl Jáuregui Penny, a 22-year-old Peruvian student, developed Migajeando Oportunidades, a free platform that connects students with scholarship opportunities.

Jáuregui, a recipient of Beca 18, drew on his own experiences securing more than 15 scholarships and exchanges to create a resource he felt was missing. He noticed many talented people in Peru lacked access to information about available funding for education.

Growing up in Chaclacayo, Peru, Jáuregui worked various jobs from a young age to help support his family and learned the importance of understanding people’s needs. He continued his education at Fe y Alegría and COAR Lima, eventually studying Environmental Engineering at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. He now shares his knowledge and experiences through his Instagram account, @rauenciencia, acknowledging both successes and the challenges of applying for opportunities.

Migajeando Oportunidades, nicknamed the “Tinder of scholarships,” currently lists over 500 opportunities, including scholarships, exchanges, internships, and volunteer positions, and allows users to filter by field of study, age, and type of program. The platform gathers information from public sources like universities and international organizations and has already reached over 60,000 active users in Latin America with 350,000 interactions.

Jáuregui plans to expand the project by offering workshops on application skills in different regions of Peru, aiming to make valuable information more accessible.
