Marsano Theater Marks 50 Years Since Revival

In Lima, Peru, the Marsano Theater celebrates 50 years since Osvaldo Cattone revitalized the venue in 1976, building on its original 1928 founding. Cattone, who viewed the theater as sacred, fostered a family-like atmosphere among the cast and crew, often extending his support beyond the stage. Makhy Arana, a longtime producer and Cattone’s friend, still visits his dressing room for inspiration.

The theater has hosted 137 productions over the decades, including a year-long run of “El hombre de La Mancha.” Cattone prioritized reinvesting profits into new shows and maintaining a direct connection with the audience, even during challenging times like the 1990s terrorist violence and frequent power outages.

Despite Cattone’s death, his team continues to uphold his values of dedication and respect for patrons, preparing a special performance of “Bodas de sangre” and a celebration for loyal audience members. They see preserving the Marsano as honoring his legacy.
