New York to Send Up to $1,500 Checks to Millions in July

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the state will send checks of up to $1,500 to eligible homeowners, co-op, and condo residents beginning in July. The measure, part of the existing STAR tax relief program, aims to provide financial relief to approximately three million residents amid rising costs for essential goods and services.

Most homeowners with incomes under $500,000 will receive checks between $350 and $600, while seniors with incomes under $110,000 may receive payments ranging from $700 to $1,500.

The aid will reach residents across the state, including 572,000 families on Long Island, 474,000 in New York City, and 397,000 in the mid-Hudson Valley. Hochul framed the payments as a way to return money to taxpayers’ pockets, helping with expenses like fuel, car payments, groceries, and education. Distribution will vary by location, with New York City residents receiving funds in July and others throughout the summer and fall.
