Why this is here: The new hospital in Sullana aims to reduce diagnostic times from 15 days to 48 hours with support from the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization.

Peru’s Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Velasco, opened the new Apoyo II-2 hospital in Sullana. The modern facility will serve more than 645,000 residents of the Piura region. This inauguration is part of an effort to strengthen health services in northern Peru.

Velasco announced plans to ensure timely access to treatment nationwide. The Council of Ministers will launch an international tender for the purchase of oncological medications. He stated the government will prevent residents of Sullana from paying out of pocket for healthcare.

The minister also visited other hospitals in the region. He inspected services and gathered feedback from staff.

Peru’s SIS has transferred 100% of its 2026 budget. Plans include replicating efficient models from other hospitals to reduce wait times. He also visited the site of a future High Complexity Hospital in Piura, which will serve over 3 million people.
