Why this is here: The Regional Government of Lambayeque formally recognized Cardinal Carlos Castillo for his contributions with Resolution Ejecutiva Regional 000092-2026-GR.LAMB/GR, acknowledging his impact on spiritual and cultural values.

The district of Zaña in Lambayeque, Peru, commemorated the 420th anniversary of the death of Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo on March 23. Hundreds of faithful and authorities participated in a pilgrimage and mass. Cardinal Carlos Castillo Mattasoglio presided over the mass at the San Nicolás de Tolentino school.

A commemorative plaque was unveiled at the house chapel where the saint spent his final hours in 1606. The Regional Government of Lambayeque awarded Cardinal Castillo a recognition for his pastoral work and contributions to spiritual and cultural values.

Governor Jorge Luis Pérez Flores highlighted Saint Toribio’s spiritual legacy and Pope Leo XIV’s connection to the Lambayeque region. He also noted ongoing projects to prepare for a potential papal visit and develop the Zaña valley, preserving the saint’s legacy.
