Limpopo Celebrates Return of Initiates From Rite of Passage

More than 200 initiates from the Babina Tšhwene ba-ga-Tala initiation school in Phokwane, outside Jane Furse, Limpopo, returned home after completing a four-week rite of passage. Families and community members welcomed them as the winter initiation season concluded. The Limpopo Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs reported over 40,000 initiates registered for the winter season across the province.

One initiate, Orearabile Moswane, stated the program emphasized respect and protection of women as a key aspect of manhood, addressing the issue of gender-based violence in the nation.

Over a thousand additional initiates are expected to return home this weekend. The return marks the completion of a traditional process intended to instill important life lessons and values in young men.
