South Africa to Expand Coding, Robotics to All Primary Schools

Deputy Minister of Basic Education Reginah Mhaule announced that coding and robotics will be integrated into the curriculum of all primary schools in South Africa within three years. She made the announcement at the opening of a new Artificial Intelligence, Coding and Robotics Centre at Khulile Primary School in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.

The R1.9 million facility represents a partnership between Isuzu Motors South Africa and the Sifiso Learning Group, launched as part of Mandela Month. Mhaule stated the government and private sector are collaborating to equip learners with skills for a future increasingly shaped by technology.

Currently, approximately two thirds of South African primary schools already offer coding and robotics. The expansion aims to reach the remaining schools, preparing students for careers in a technology-driven world. The initiative seeks to address the skills gap and ensure South African learners are competitive in the global job market.
