EU Invests Millions to Strengthen Namibian Democracy

The European Union invested €6 million (approximately N$127 million) in Namibia to bolster democratic governance, parliamentary oversight, and citizen participation through the Enhancing Participatory Democracy in Namibia programme. The six-year program, concluding after starting in August 2020, focused on strengthening cooperation between the Namibian Parliament, the National Planning Commission, and the EU itself.

The program aimed to improve how Namibia’s parliament oversees government actions and how citizens engage with their government. It will continue to benefit the country’s eighth parliament, starting in March 2025.

The initiative represents a commitment to supporting democratic institutions in Namibia. Future impacts will depend on continued collaboration and effective implementation of the program’s outcomes as Namibia moves forward with its parliamentary processes.
