Limpopo Hospital Project Aims to Expand Specialist Care

The Limpopo Provincial Government and the Development Bank of Southern Africa are building a R5 billion hospital in Polokwane, South Africa, to improve healthcare access and training for medical professionals. The Limpopo Central Academic Hospital will house 488 beds and 17 operating theatres, offering specialized services like oncology and advanced maternal care.

The hospital intends to reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment and bolster the province’s healthcare workforce through training programs for doctors, nurses, and specialists.

Construction is currently underway with an anticipated completion date of July 2028. Beyond healthcare improvements, the project aims to create jobs, support local businesses, and establish Polokwane as a center for medical education and excellence.
